SustainCERT launches GHG inventory verification

ANNOUNCEMENTGHG INVENTORY

SustainCERT now offers independent verification of corporate GHG inventories, helping companies strengthen the credibility of their emissions data, prepare for increasing regulatory scrutiny, and make more informed climate decisions.

Our criteria-based verification confirms that GHG inventories are prepared in line with recognized standards such as the GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-1, and can be trusted by stakeholders. A verified inventory supports reliable reporting and enables more robust decision-making across decarbonization, procurement, and capital allocation.

What is a corporate GHG inventory?

A corporate GHG inventory is the foundation for measuring emissions across a company’s operations, tracking progress against targets, and comparing performance over time. Organizations rely on it to inform strategic decisions on decarbonization pathways and capital allocation.

Compiling an inventory involves defining organizational boundaries, identifying emission sources, collecting data, and calculating emissions. Following the GHG Protocol, emissions are divided into three scopes based on their origin: direct emissions from operations (Scope 1), indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2) and indirect emissions from the value chain (Scope 3).

Why verify your GHG inventory?

Build trust in climate disclosures

Increase confidence in reported emissions and demonstrate progress against targets with an independent verification aligned with leading standards.

Enable better business decisions

Ensure your inventory is robust enough to identify key emissions sources, prioritize reduction efforts, and support decarbonization planning.

Prepare for regulatory assurance

Align with evolving requirements such as CSRD, ESRS, and ISSB, and strengthen audit readiness ahead of mandatory assurance.

What we verify

We verify corporate GHG inventories for a defined reporting period and scope, providing assurance that they are complete, consistent, and aligned with selected standards.

Our assessment covers:

  • Organizational and reporting boundaries (Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3)
  • Methodologies, assumptions, and calculations
  • Underlying data, controls, and supporting evidence

Our approach focuses on traceability, consistency, and material accuracy, ensuring the inventory is reliable without duplicating internal calculations.

Verification is conducted against globally recognized frameworks, including the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, and Land Sector and Removals Standard, as well as ISO 14064-1.

A risk-based verification approach

Our methodology follows ISO-aligned verification principles, with a clear emphasis on materiality and risk.

Each engagement begins with structured scoping to define boundaries, criteria, and inventory architecture. Verification then focuses on areas where discrepancies could materially impact reported results, focusing efforts where it matters most.

This risk-based approach improves efficiency while maintaining rigor, ensuring that verification delivers meaningful assurance rather than a purely procedural review.

Our verification services are supported by our platform, designed to structure data, streamline evidence handling, and improve traceability across the verification process.

Verify your GHG inventory

Strengthen the credibility of your emissions data, and move forward with confidence in your reporting, strategy, and investment decisions.
