SustainCERT's GHG Validation and Verification Services Expand to Include Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) Projects

We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our scopes under the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for our Greenhouse Gas (GHG) validation and verification services to Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) projects. We now also offer validation and verification services for Verra projects under these new scopes.

Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program includes several methodologies for Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) projects. Notably, in October 2023, Verra introduced VM0047, an innovative ARR methodology that utilizes dynamic performance benchmarks and remote sensing data to establish baselines and assess additionality.

This methodology is designed to accommodate various ARR activities worldwide, including:

  • Afforestation: Establishing forests on lands not previously forested.
  • Reforestation: Re-establishing forests on lands that were historically forested but have been converted to other uses.
  • Revegetation: Increasing the density of trees or other woody vegetation in areas where such vegetation has been reduced.

The introduction of VM0047 aims to ensure higher-quality nature-based carbon removal projects by leveraging advanced technologies and methodologies.

For detailed information on the types of ARR projects currently registered under Verra's VCS program, you can refer to Verra's official documentation and program details.
